Solid State Drives
With today’s high-speed processors and low memory prices, in most cases the weakest link in a modern computer is hard drive performance. Solid state drives (SSDs) aim to fix that by offering extremely fast storage with no moving parts – and the prices are now affordable.
Hard drive prices are way up due to last year’s flooding in Thailand, but even still SSDs are far more expensive than a traditional hard drive per gigabyte. That being said, we find that most business-use PCs use less than 10% of a typical 500GB hard drive. If you do need lots of storage you can still benefit by using a low-cost SSD for your OS and applications, then adding a larger traditional hard drive for data storage.
If you’re looking for great performance on a new PC, or looking to increase performance on an aging PC, consider an SSD.
